I Got This

If you were headed somewhere and had never been there before, you would probably want to know some directions, like a map.  It would be the smart thing to do, because you sure don't want to waste time getting lost.  So GPS, a map app, or something would help.  Even a paper map, like people used to use before there was a computer on their phone.

No one would say, you know, I don't need to know my final destination.  I am going to travel a little bit closer tomorrow, and it's okay that I have no idea where I am going. Some might say that such an action would be foolhardy.

Well, guess what?  Walking in God's will is a lot like the no-map option.  The Bible says, a man may direct his steps, but the way of God is the final say.

Maybe you've been in a season where you have no idea what the next day is going to bring for you.  It's a total walk of faith.  I can recall a time like this in my life, because I wanted to know the next five steps at least, and asked God to know what was coming up, but He didn't move that way.

What I learned is that 'I don't got it."

I like saying, "I've got this." I like having things under control.  I like planning and having those plans come through.  God took me through a season where I definitely did not "got it."  What he taught me through that time is that if I "got it," then I don't need him.  His best desire for me is to realize that I need him like I need my next breath. "Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life, and breath, and all things."  Acts 17:25

He needs me to trust him so wholly and fully that when I wake up in the morning, I look forward to how he is going to lead me in the day.  I have to seek him first and trust him most, more than I trust the balance in my bank account, stability, friends, a job, or anything that I could put my trust in more than Jesus.

God uses my weakness to show off his strength.  2  Corinthians 12:9 says, "But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Friends, let's leave the "getting it" to the One who has always had it. He is strong, dependable, and loves you like crazy.

Reflection Questions

1. If I didn't need him, then I could just do my own thing, but that is even flawed because I need a savior.  I need redemption for the sin that separates me from God. Have you asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior?  Have you realized that you need him desperately to save you from your sin?  He's already made the payment; you just have to accept it.  Take this time to write out your testimony in 100 words or less.

2.  Are you stuck in the trap of "I got this"?  Friend, you do not got this.  What you "got" is misplaced trust in stuff or people that will not last and will disappoint you.  Where does your trust lie?

3.  Write out a prayer that tells Jesus exactly what you are trusting for and acknowledge that you don't got it.  Ask Jesus to meet you where you are and ask him to help you trust him for everything, walking day by day in the wonderful light and love of Jesus Christ.

Let’s pray!

Jesus, you are the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.  You totally have it, and I definitely do not "got it."   Help me to relinquish the trust that I am holding onto so tight and help me to trust you and you alone.  Help me to run from my dependence on a bank account, a job, or a person — anything that makes me think I've got it.  Do what you need to do to show me how to have complete faith in you.  I praise you because you are holy, Amen.
